Blue Origin lies practically dormant in the public eye for a decade, and then emerges yesterday and spams the hell out of their live stream with this whole Crew Member Seven-thing. Dear Blue, if you disagree, and think that your past PR efforts have been ‘quite sufficient’, then you are sadly out of touch with the current state of the rocket enthusiast community.
TheThirdMan Pirms 4 Mēnešiem
@NorthernChev Yes but what you are saying is based on your claim that they have lain “practically dormant” which is not true. People seem flustered by the fact that the PR space is dominated by SpaceX and that Blue Origin has a different strategy. In the end, the PR that counts is vision of rockets launching.
NorthernChev Pirms 4 Mēnešiem

@MANNN Yes, actually, one can. Why? Because there are multiple definitions of where 'space' begins. Well, there's really one one and it's between 50 and 62 miles (80.5-99.7 km). Europe (in the form of the FAI) rounded up, and the US rounded down. There's no significant difference in the atmosphere in that 12 mile area.

@Nowhereman10 not the same exact rocket, it’s the same type. A Falcon 9 is a Falcon 9, no matter what specific booster it it, it’s still a Falcon 9, just like a New Shepard is a New Shepard even if the booster or capsule is a different serial number or something.
Nowhereman10 Pirms 5 Mēnešiem
@NASA Worm Logo They didn't launch the same capsule and booster 15 times. New Shepards 1-4 have flown all those. The Propulsion Module (PM) for NS 1 was lost when it crashed when attempting landing, but the capsule was recovered safely. It took another 6 months before tail no. 2 booster was ready and it flew the next five flights almost flawlessly, even despite the thrust from the capsule's abort engine hitting it on NS-6. After that, the next seven flights were from the more advanced 3rd vehicle and capsule which added windows to the capsule among other improvements. Now we have tail no. 4 flying and it is fully equipped for human passengers.

Clancy Pirms 4 Mēnešiem
Seems like you're right! First flight will happen July 20th!
Clancy Pirms 5 Mēnešiem
@Nowhereman10 huh, you're right! although i don't think it's illogical to assume that they'll take a bit longer with the transition to crewed flights, it's definitely a possibility! one thing though, the original comment talks about space tourists. we know that BO isn't flying tourists on their first mission (at least i think we do). Although the title of first space tourist would go to Dennis Tito and Space Adventures, which beat both SpaceX and BO by 20 years ;)
Nowhereman10 Pirms 5 Mēnešiem
@Clancy Actually, Blue is getting back to flying regularly again now that they have their first vehicle that is fully capable of carrying people. From October to April they've flown three times, which is a 13 week average, so at this rate NS-16 will take place in late June or early July.

@Cyclone Inc. And that's the way I should take but looks like I'm more sanguine and at some point the "Jeff Who" and other stupid rants made me stop to being nice and start shooting. SpaceX should take action to get rid of these suckers because the only thing that does is to reflect their behavior on the company. SpaceX the braindead haters company could be the brand and that's sad because I objectively know that the people at SpaceX are not like the guys who plagues internet, but they're responsible for their community, the good, the bad and the ugly.
Cyclone Inc.
Cyclone Inc. Pirms 5 Mēnešiem
@D C I see, I get it, although I like SpaceX, and many other rocket companies, the SpaceX community stands out, in a bad way, so that is why I like to ignore the people who say "Jeff Who" and stuff like that, so that is why I like to just stay on team space.
D C Pirms 5 Mēnešiem
@Cyclone Inc. Elon isn't in charge of his supporters but he not only created this movement but also did/does nothing to refrain their actions and keep behaving the same to maintain their fanatism. He is not in charge but responsible for that pollution. When you rise an army of fanatic haters you can be held accountable for what they do. And after several years of enduring those muskies I'm at a point I shoot them on sight. While I was a early Space X enthusiast looking a company dynamising the entire industrial sector and being impressed by their technological achievements, they disgusted my with this company by being so toxic and I can't enjoy anything SpaceX related anymore. I have no problem with other space agencies/companies and their products, even with indian ones and their a bit too devoted supporters, but SpaceX... They have to make a good cleanup on their fanboys army to become something I can appreciate again, they not only the space company they're also the people they attract, their fanbase. And the SpaceX one is the worst you can possibly found out there, they're on par with pvp videogame community like LoL and at least Riot Games tries to address the issue.
Cyclone Inc.
Cyclone Inc. Pirms 5 Mēnešiem
@D C I hope you know that Elon isn't in charge of his supporters, and if you were to be accepted into team space, you wouldn't be able to make the cut as of now, you know that team space is basically, not trash-talking about other space companies just going for all the space companies.
D C Pirms 5 Mēnešiem
@Cyclone Inc. why? Because Muskies are not space enthusiasts, they're members of the Musk sect. They're the plague of the comunity of space enthusiasts, the Qanons of space community. They don't love space stuff, they hate anything who is not from their living god and live to: *see his stupid doge meme on twitter *spray their shit on every space agencies and space companies "SpaceX iz beteur!" "u suk u don't send rokot dat land agun!" Fuck you Musk for creating this zombies army

Blue Origin needs to ramp up their pace considerably. The last thing we want is a monopoly of one company in space, even if it's SpaceX. Competition is the key to progress. This comes from a SpaceX fan.
Luis Pereira
Luis Pereira Pirms 4 Mēnešiem
@TheThirdMan "But I also know he wouldn't be doing it if there wasn't a buck in it. " A buck in it? Both Musk and Bezos have more money than could ever spend. In fact, investing in such a risky industry is one of the only ways they could ever spend that much money. I'm firmly convinced that both men want money to spend on space stuff, rather than wanting to make money from space stuff. As for what Bezos is thinking, I think part of the problem is that Bezos' role in BO is much more of a patron, i.e. the guy who pays the bills, while Musk has a much more active role in the engineering, as all major design decisions pass through him (this is detailed in the recent Liftoff book). As such, what I hear is that the corporate culture inside BO is almost identical to the culture in the older players in the industry (Lockheed/Boeing), while SpaceX has a unique culture shaped by the kind of person Musk is. "there's a lot to come from Bezos. He's playing his cards very close to his chest" I understand this instinct, but here's a reality check: Starlink vs Project Kuiper. I.e. SpaceX's vs Amazon's plans for satellite internet. If Kuiper is to seriously compete with Starlink it needs to start deploying satellites ASAP, and yet right now Starlink has deployed over 1500 sats, while Kuiper has 0. Bezos *needs* BlueOrigin to start making orbital launches, and he needs it yesterday. That alone tells you that, whatever cards Bezos is holding, he's missing some key cards. "I don't think either of them will see a Mars colony in their lifetime" Certainly not with that attitude. Sure, from a realistic point of view, we're still *many* key technologies away from colonizing Mars, mostly due to the whole "keeping humans alive" issue. But the interesting thing is that by aiming for Mars, and designing Starship with that goal, SpaceX may end up creating a vehicle that makes the smaller goals of a moon base and larger space stations far more reasonable than they currently are.
TheThirdMan Pirms 4 Mēnešiem
@Luis Pereira Some truth in that, I suspect. I know Musk has a strong personal interest in space - it's his passion. But I also know he wouldn't be doing it if there wasn't a buck in it. Maybe that's part of the passion...? Bezos, I can only guess at. He gets a lot of negative publicity, mostly from the Musk cultists, but I think he's genuine enough. However, he doesn't telegraph his punches the way Musk does. It seems like his whole persona is calculated on what Musk _wouldn't_ do. I'm damned if I can work him out. But I follow my own instincts here and I suspect there's a lot to come from Bezos. He's playing his cards very close to his chest at the moment and I don't blame him. I don't think either of them will see a Mars colony in their lifetime. I don't believe it will be practical for another couple of centuries at least, if ever.
Luis Pereira
Luis Pereira Pirms 4 Mēnešiem
@TheThirdMan Neither do Musk and Bezos. One of the main reasons why SpaceX moves so fast is because Musk knows that colonizing Mars is a ridiculously high goal, and that there's only a slim chance of achieving that goal within his lifetime. I.e. Musk moves this fast because he feels like "his time is running out". Bezos, on the other hand, seems to be taking an almost leisurely pace with BO. My expectation for BO is that it will eventually start achieving impressive milestones that make it a proper player in the space industry, but there's a real chance that Bezos will die without having seen BO achieve anything truly groundbreaking and industry redefining the way SpaceX has done repeatedly.
